Nature vs. Choice

In Maine, State Representative Brian Duprey wants to ban abortions based upon whether or not the child is deemed to be homosexual. This is founded upon the assumption that scientists will one day discover a "gay-gene" that determines what a person's sexual inclinations will be. Duprey said that, "Technology is changing every day. They could map the homosexual gene tomorrow." In my opinion, the questions that this bill brings up concerning abortion and the rights of homosexuals, no matter how interesting, are immaterial to the matter at hand. I do not think that scientists will ever find a gene that causes a person to have inclinations towards being homosexual since it is contrary to how human beings are designed and is a rebellion against the natural order of things. Nobody is born innately homosexual, we are all, however, born sinful. People do not have their sexual actions determined by their DNA any more than it determines whether they will commit murder, steal from someone, or cheat on a test. These are all conscious choices that people make, and there is always the option of choosing to not do something.

Being gay is not a choice. This is determined in the early stages after conception. It depend on the sexe of the child and the dose on hormons it receives. A male child exposed to a lot of female hormons tents to be gay. The bill you're talking ab this indeed bs

The argument about homosexuality being part of your genetic makeup does not have much scienific evidence to back it up. For example, a lot of people attempt to point to the Pillard study of how approximately half of identical twins, where one of the twins is homosexual the other is also. If the gene makeup was true, 100% of the twins, where at least one is homosexual, would have to be homosexual. I can see how a person's personality might make them more predisposed to the homosexual lifestyle. But from all the studies I have seen there is no concrete evidence that homosexuality is genetic. Right now I believe politics, more than science is driving opinion. And a lot of the science is not even good science. Just like a lot of proposed laws are not good laws.

Before I forget. Lenny, could you post a comment about where I can find that study about the extra dose of hormones that determines the person's sexual preference. I have not found that one.
